My name is Angela
DeVeau Wright, founder of
Texas Strings® and I am honored to have
the opportunity to be a positive influence for those who seek to
both expand their musical potential and to enjoy the recreational
benefits that music provides.
I believe that music endeavors, when properly supported and pursued,
can grow to be an enduring skill that is easily learned and enjoyed
throughout ones’ life time. Noteworthy is the fact that there is significant
scientific evidence to substantiate the unique and positive effect music
has on brain function and development. Furthermore, music can be instrumental
for enhancing a student’s ability to retain and apply essential
academic knowledge covering a wide variety of subjects, especially
in language, math, and surprisingly to some, even athletics.

Dr.
Wright

Suzuki violin
Students.
|
My
background includes many years as a professional performer and teacher
who earned a Bachelor
of Music Education and Certification as a Suzuki instructor at the University
of Memphis. U of M was one of the first Universities to embrace the Suzuki® Method
and to establish the vibrant Memphis
Suzuki Institute, a community program for Suzuki music instruction that
still thrives today with more than 300 students. If you are interested in
the Suzuki method and pedagogy, please browse to our sister website at www.SimplySuzuki.com for
more information.
Professionally, I have had the opportunity to perform as a soloist with an orchestral
backdrop, to serve as concertmistress, and to be an integral part of a musical
team for recording artists and independent record production companies for recording
acoustic strings on masters for multiple commercial record releases.
One of the more recognizable record companies includes Stax Records
in Memphis,
home of Sam and Dave, Booker T. & the MGs, The Staple Singers, Otis Redding,
Issac Hayes, David Porter and others. Other recording sessions in Memphis area
studios included American Sound Studios where Elvis’ MEMPHIS Album was
recorded as well as B.J. Thomas’ “Hooked on a Feeling” and
many, many other top 100 charted singles were recorded. Also, Papa Willie Mitchell’s
Hi Records and Royal Recording Studios, most known for the artistry of Al Green.
In short, there have been many recording sessions logged with my Musician’s
Union card, much to the thanks of many musicians and music business professionals
whom I respect and admire. In the 70’s, Memphis truly rocked!

I have performed live
in various capacities as well, including Broadway musicals, traditional
classical concerts, and contemporary stage shows.
Multiple times I have performed the Fiddler character in productions of "Fiddler
on the Roof" for multiple live performance companies. I have performed as a violinist
with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra the Memphis Opera Company, and the Germantown
Symphony Orchestra while residing in Memphis, Tennessee.
Regarding other commercial music venues, Smokey Robinson, Cybill Shepherd, Robert
Goulet, Patti Labelle, are some of the familiar names of artists for which I
have had the pleasure of performing live commercial concerts with.
While Texas Strings® is primarily focused on music education
and the development of music skills, many of our teaching staff also have outstanding
associations and experiences to draw from. Without a doubt they do compare with
my own experiences and accomplishments, We are proud of each instructor within
our organization. In the areas of music education, composition, performing, recording,
music publishing, production, promotion, and artist development our collective
experiences go deep into practically every facet of music and the business of
music.
My desire is to help bring beauty through music to my sphere of influence in
South Central Texas and beyond. It is with zeal and joy that I both teach and
perform music in the multi-cultural melting pot that is my native home of San
Antonio, Texas where I was born and grew up. From my early beginnings at Thomas
Jefferson High School and taking lessons from well known local teachers such
as Dominick Saltarelli, Barbara Halbardier, and Louis Kottler, to my present
role with Texas Strings®, I have much to thank God for who
has put me in the realm of music. Performing contemporary praise and worship
music with dynamic praise groups is absolutely a vital part of sharing my talents
and giving thanks to the One who gives abundantly.
All of us at Texas Strings® look forward to meeting you.
Our expanding list of accomplished musicians welcomes you. Together we can pursue
and fulfill your vision for becoming a better musician by developing skillful
music from the heart.
Sincerely,
Angela Wright, BME, MA, PhD
